| dc.description | ENGLISH: The file contains 1000 Icelandic idioms processed from the ISLEX database of The Árni Magnusson Institute for Icelandic studies. They are listed with their English idiomatic equivalent and literal meaning in both languages, as well as example sentences and keywords. A common feature of most of the idioms is that their intended meaning diverges from their literal meaning and can therefore not be translated word for word. They are, furthermore, in most cases syntactically mobile, which is why case information is included. Expletive subjects are also marked. ÍSLENSKA: Í skránni eru 1000 íslensk orðasambönd sem fengin eru úr ISLEX-gagnagrunni Stofnunar Árna Magnússonar í íslenskum fræðum. Hún hefur að geyma enska samsvörun orðasambandanna og bókstaflega merkingu þeirra í hvoru máli fyrir sig auk dæmasetninga og lykilorða. Orðasamböndin í skránni eiga það sammerkt að vera notuð í yfirfærðri merkingu og því ekki hægt að þýða þau orð fyrir orð. Þá eru þau flestöll „hreyfanleg“ (e. mobile) með tilliti til setningagerðar en í skránni er gerð hvers nafnliðar merkt með tilliti til falls og þá eru leppar eða gervifrumlög (e. expletives) merkt. |
